Part One – St Pancras to Market Harborough
In the early 1970s the Midland Main Line had changed little since the days of steam. It retained semaphore signalling and signalboxes and had seen little in the way of modernisation or rationalisation.
Join us for a ride in the cab of a diesel from St Pancras in 1971. On the way we journey past the locomotive depot at Cricklewood and through St Albans & Bedford with the suburban DMU services. We then head north along a railway which still carried large quantities of freight . We pass over the summit at Sharnbrook and then head through Wellingborough with its yards and on through Kettering before entering the double track section to Market Harborough.
