South Wales encompassed an amazing variety of railways and landscapes. The main line through Cardiff hosted services to London. The Valleys with their spectacular railways served an area dominated by ‘King Coal’. Swansea had a mix of lines and motive power. The South West coast was served by sleepy seaside branches.
The Gateway to Wales The Severn Tunnel and the route along the Estuary converging on Severn Tunnel Junction in steam days. Freight and passenger traffic is featured on a range of duties.
The Motive Power A recap on the motive power scene & the contrasting locomotive types serving the routes through North, Mid & South Wales.
The Main Line through Cardiff Steam workings through Newport & Cardiff and the steam sheds with a wide range of power including 9fs, 56XX tanks and Halls.
The Welsh Valleys The railways and services serving the Valley lines. Crumlin viaduct and the cross valley lines are included along with coal traffic and special trains. Prairies and Panniers feature on passenger and freight.

By LNWR to South Wales The route through Pontardulais to Swansea Victoria plus the lines in the Swansea area including the docks.
To the South West The railways of Carmarthen, freight to Newcastle Emlyn, the Cardigan Branch plus the branches to Cardigan, Pembroke, Milford Haven and Fishguard.
