Rfd – PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE: An in-depth review of the development of Wagonload freight since nationalisation. Archive scenes include traditional trains, the Road Railer & the ‘new’ Freight-liner services. The story continues with the development & demise of Speedlink & the Freightliner operation today. Also included is FREIGHT CONNECTION ‘92, the unveiling of the Class 92 & views of the exhibition. The future is also reviewed including the Channel Tunnel freight terminals, continental freight and the launch of Haulmark.

TRANSITION AT ELY: Electrification of the Cambridge to Kings Lynn line has eliminated one of the last classic semaphore locations in Britain. This section includes scenes before & after Ely was energised. Classes include 31, 47, 101 & new EMUs.

POWER OF THE 31s: The Brush type 2 remains one of Britain’s most numerous engines. This section includes the class in various liveries on an incredible variety of workings. Highlights are the unique liveried ‘Severn Valley Railway’ and green liveried ‘Stratford’. Also featured are examples in ‘Dutch’, ‘coal’, ‘petroleum’, ‘blue’, ‘mainland’, ‘Regional Railways’ and ‘orange’ liveries!, plus the ‘Brush Veteran’ and ‘Brighton Rock’ railtours.

WESTERN WASHOUT: A report on the severe disruption to the Western Main Line between Exeter & Penz ance as a result of the floods between Nov & Dec 1992. We include diverted HSTs at Yeovil Junction, flooding near Exeter, a class 37 to the rescue of a failed passenger service and ‘Bubble Cars’ deputising for HSTs.

THE DEMISE OF TRAINLOAD COAL: The dramatic announcement by British Coal on 13th October 1992 will have far reaching consequences for Trainload coal. We detail these effects area by area and show coal operations on lines which may soon close. We visit the North East and witness class 56s and 58’s with traffic at Doncaster, Sharlston Colliery, Oakenshaw Junction, The South Yorkshire Joint Line, Prince of Wales Colliery, Clipstone and Silverhill Colliery, plus a brief look at the cutbacks elsewhere on the network featuring classes 20, 31 and 37.

GRANGEMOUTH DEPOT CLOSURE: The closure took place in March 93. We take a look at the depot & associated freight workings.
